We’re Creating the New Story!

Dearest Friends,
This we know—change of immeasurable proportions has arrived at our collective door. The election of Barack Obama as the next president of the United States has signaled a multi-dimensional shift that is rapidly sinking into the collective consciousness of this country and around the world. And each of you are an intricate part of this evolutionary unfolding.
Obama’s message that This Is Our Time is not a slogan. It IS our COLLECTIVE time…and it’s exhilarating, exciting, and so full of possibility. I believe that the president-elect is showing us the way by refusing to live in the old story.
We’ve heard this a thousand times over: Just how is it that a young, mixed race, state senator with the name Barack Hussein Obama–think about it–without much money or many endorsements overcomes steep challenges to arrive at this place and time? Does it make you question any familiar “This will never happen.” or “I can’t do this.” beliefs that you might have?
I have been deeply touched by who Obama is–a psychologically mature man who has taken the time to understand and integrate his African and white heritage, who is both smart and heartful, who takes responsibility for his decisions, and who reflects discipline and focus–not only the discipline and focus to meet his goals–but more importantly, the discipline and focus to express what is best within him. This has not come without intense work in deeply knowing and accepting himself. It has been exceedingly rare to witness this degree of emotional, mental, and spiritual health in our national and international leaders, and it thrills me to the core. From an Enneagram perspective, his way of Being in the world illustrates the immense impact of presence in leadership. Even with all the chaos in the world, have you heard the collective sigh of relief that presence creates?
But something MUCH BIGGER than Barack Obama is happening. Not only are the changes occurring in the outer world, but also in our own inner lives. I have a deeply felt sense that each of us is being given help (another word for this is Grace) in making room for the more expanded capacities that is ours to have. Obama is a mirror, a reflection of what is already in us. We are being asked to become Grounded, to soften and allow our tender and wounded hearts to open, to come to an inner mental stillness and clarity so that we might claim our Inner Authority to listen to that which calls our souls. This is part of what it means to take our place in this New and ever-unfolding Story.
As a part of this New Story, there is a shift in power that is both visible and invisible. Rather than power being “given to the One by the Many,” (as in saying, “Here, Mr. President, fix it for us.”) to an “assuming of Power by the Many.” The community-organizing/social networking mindset was not just about electing an extraordinary human being. It showed all of us what happens when we come together to engage and contribute to what we consider the greater good. It’s never been more obvious that we are all in this together.
As part of this evolutionary change, my intuitive sense is that even the cells in our brains and bodies are changing. What this actually means remains to be seen, except that it is going to be harder to sustain the conditioned and limited personality patterns that limit us.
We know that there will be bumps and set-backs on the journey forward. They are a necessary part of the feedback/learning loop of evolution.
My question is: What does being a part of this New Story mean for you? What calls to your heart? What could possibly hold you back now?
What an incredible time to be alive, participating in the unfolding nature of the Reality. I look forward to sharing the journey with you.

 Roxanne Howe-Murphy’s personal mission is to awaken, inspire, and deepen the highest nature and Essence within each person by focusing on healthy adult psychological and spiritual development.
